Reader ReviewsFrank Webb has written a well organized, thoughtful work on artistic composition that anyone involved in the arts could benefit from. There are rich colorful examples of paintings (mostly watercolor it would appear) as well as more diagramatic nuts and bolts type examples in black and white. He gets his points about composition across like no other author that I've seen in print. Not that other authors aren't worth checking out too. He describes and illustrates things like "interlocking shapes" and "shape passages" for example, in a way that you're not likely to forget. Ditto for the rest of the book. His more structured pages show charts with various design elements (such as shape, line direction, tone, pattern, etc.) illustrated in the simplest most memorable possible way. The only other material that I've read about composition that was this organized and thorough was information that I downloaded from the internet. That information was a lot more expensive and I had to print it myself.
