Product Description
Nancy Roth believes that the future well-being of planet Earth is dependent on the human will and that becoming aligned with truth rather than falsehood, with altruism rather than selfishness, and with action rather than passivity, is good for the soul. And for the Earth. Her book is a passionate and hopeful challenge to people of faith and seekers for truth. Roths gentle commentary and elegant passion entice us to a one-ness with creation and each other that is both active and rooted in faith.Phyllis Tickle, compiler The Words of Jesus: A Gospel of the Sayings of Our Lord Rev. Nancy Roth gets at the big questions here. Christians in our era will be judged by how they respond to the ecological crisis we now face.Bill McKibben, author of The Comforting Whirlwind: God, Job, and the Scale of Creation This immensely alluring book is a spiritual invitation into a deeper experience of intentional life. I hope many people will join Nancy on this journey into the soul and spirit of conscious universe. The Rt. Rev. Steven Charleston, President and Dean, Episcopal Divinity School.
Reader ReviewsIt may sound strange, that although I write "religious" books myself, I do not often read this genre. Nancy Roth's Grounded in Love is the exception. I like its structural division--love, concern, ethics, action, hope--and the lovely epigraphs at the beginning of each chapter. There is something for everyone in this book. It is both a practical and an inspirational book and as I read through it, I could see many uses for it--there is excellent material for a weekend retreat; it could be used by any church or community group as a short course; it could be taken on a month-long Ignatian retreat; or it could be used, a chapter a day, for one's own individual enlightenment. It even has suggestions for raising ecological consciousness in young children through hikes in the woods and such. Nancy is way "ahead of the curve" in terms of what she personally does to encourage a cleaner, greener earth in terms of adaptations to her lifestyle and home, including the installation of a green cooling and heating system for her house. She lives what she proclaims in a delightful way, but does not put readers who are not quite there yet on a guilt trip. This book is tough--it has a serious message--but due to Nancy's gentle style, I did not feel judged. Rather I just wanted more. I read every word and I was sad when the book ended. For those like me, deeply concerned about the future of Mother Earth, but who do who not read "religious" books and do not enjoy being preached to, this book is for you! Grounded in Love is a rare and wonderful book! Anne Rowthorn, Ph. D., freelance writer of ecological books, including Caring for Creation and Earth and All the Stars.
