About The Author
Dwight H. Perkins is the H. H. Burbank Professor of Political Economy at Harvard University, from which he received his M.A. and Ph.D., and former director of the Harvard Institute for International Development. Professor Perkins is a leading scholar on the economies of East and Southeast Asia and has over the course of his distinguished academic career been an immensely successful and popular instructor, teaching thousands of students. Steven Radelet has been a fellow at Harvard's Institute for International Development and taught in both Harvard's economics department and the Kennedy School of Government. He subsequently was deputy assistant secretary of the U.S. Treasury for Africa, the Middle East and South Asia, and is currently senior fellow at the Center for Global Development and teaches part-time at Stanford University. He holds Ph.D. and M.P.P. degrees from Harvard and a B.S. degree from Central Michigan University. He is an expert on foreign aid, developing country debt and financial crises, and economic growth, and has extensive experience in West Africa and Southeast Asia. David L. Lindauer is the Stanford Calderwood Professor of Economics at Wellesley College, where he has been a popular and award-winning undergraduate instructor since 1981. He frequently serves as a consultant to the World Bank and was a faculty associate of the Harvard Institute for International Development. Professor Lindauer's area of expertise is in labor economics. He has worked on labor market issues in East and South-East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and elsewhere. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard.

This is a well-organized, straight-forward, and informative introduction to development economics. The book has obviously been edited and polished so as to deliver information to the student in the most efficient way possible. Also, this book is so interesting that it is a joy to read. I cannot say that about very many textbooks.
