From School Library Journal
Gr 1-3-Thomas is so worried about the geography test at school the next day that he finds it impossible to get to sleep. After several remedies fail, he turns to counting sheep. Unfortunately, his sheep travel with lots of luggage that quickly fills the pasture. He sends the foursome on a worldwide trip, visiting countries and participating in activities in alphabetical order. They act in Australia,
kayak in Kenya, operate in Oman. Not only does Thomas fall asleep, but the whirlwind review also helps him earn an A+ on the quiz. The illustrations are adequate, although some pages are a bit crowded with scenes from countries. The four hip sheep will likely amuse readers and are certainly the book's strongest asset. However, the premise that an alphabetical list of countries, without maps or context, will help anyone learn geography seems far-fetched, and the story isn't strong enough to hold the interest of young children.-Kathy Piehl, Mankato State University, MN

Product Description
A little boy named Thomas and his unusual sheep take a whirlwind trip around the world in this story. Anxious about his teacher's Great Geography Test tomorrow, Thomas has trouble sleeping. He tries and tries, but he just cannot fall asleep.
In come the sheep to the rescue! They help Thomas prepare for the big test by traveling to countries around the globe. Mischief follows this crazy crew as they see the world from A to Z, doing everything from acting in Australia to zigzagging through Zimbabwe in this alphabet book adventure.
Thomas and his sheep take the reader on a world tour unlike any ever imagined. Children can learn geography, as well as the alphabet, while following the hilarious antics of these globe-trotters. Their journey is humorously depicted by illustrator Perry Board and the zaniness of this adventure is captured in his drawings.
Reader ReviewsI just logged on toon what great classroom applications this book has for teachers, but I see another reviewer already beat me to it. Still, my colleague and I both picked up a copy of the book after hearing the author speak. We've used it to launch some great writing and geography projects in our classrooms (1st and 4th). I like that Layne uses his writing to help other educators. It makes his books practical as well as fun.
