It's for older students; it emphasizes the need for preparatory research and contains more complex experiments requiring detailed observations and analyses and more extensive use of lab equipment. The twenty projects are organized into 7 general areas that include how microbes spread, microbes in food, and how to control them. Projects are well presented and organized and include background information, overviews, materials lists, step-by-step directions, and aids to help interpret findings. Safety precautions pointing out potentially hazardous procedures abound. Helpful appendixes about using metric measurements and listing scientific-supply companies are included.
