From School Library Journal
Grade 4-7-- Two great project books. The experiments presented (12 in each book) are simple enough for most fourth graders to do on their own and interesting enough to intrigue them. Although not complex, they do demonstrate important basic scientific principles . Each key step is clearly shown. Full-color photographs set against a white background are both attractive and useful; they show the supplies needed as well as the finished product. All materials are easy to find, many without a trip to the store. Potentially dangerous steps are noted with a triangular symbol and a note to ask for adult help. Most experiments include a small captioned photograph that ties the activity involved to real-life examples, thus broadening readers' understanding of the principle demonstrated. The best science project books include appealing experiments and clear instructions, while successfully teaching scientific concepts. Ardley's books meet all of these standards. --Steven Engelfried, Alameda County Library, CA
