Gr. 7^-12. Do video games increase heart stress? Does a chameleon's size affect the speed at which it changes color? Dashefsky offers twenty experiments about human and nonhuman forms of life, several of which can be used at the junior-high level. Helpful chapters on the scientific method, zoology basics, and research tips set the stage nicely for the experiments, which fall into four categories: people-related, biocides, animal lives, and animals and the environment. The second and fourth categories relate well to Earth Day projects. Each experiment contains an overview, a materials list, procedures, at least one illustration, and an inquiry-oriented analysis that leads the student to draw conclusions. Similar in format to VanCleave's popular A Projects series, though presenting fewer experiments, this will be a natural for public and school libraries where demand for project books is ever increasing. List of supply houses; glossary; bibliography.
